The Drew Carey Show
The Drew Carey Show aired on television on ABC from year 1995 until 2004 and was set in Cleveland, Ohio. The shows ratings did well while it aired and the show lasted 9 seasons. Drew Carey who was a stand up-comedian as well as a writer, created and starred himself in this hilarious sitcom.
Drew Carey is a fictionalized character representing himself and calls himself an “Everyman”. In the show, Drew is the assistant director of personnel in a department store located in Cleveland. His friends join him in his everyday life, facing all of his trials and tribulations. His obnoxious co-worker Mimi (Kathy Kinney) causes a lot of problems for Drew in the first season but later on becomes closer to Drew. To make some extra cash, he has a brewery going in his garage that he runs with his friends. Later on in the show, Kate (Christa Miller) falls in love with Drew and eventually marries him.
“What’s Wrong With This Episode?” was where the show had deliberate mistakes and invited viewers at home to find the most problems and win a prize, and live episodes, with loose plots and improvised scenes featuring cast members from Who’s Line is it Anyway?
Several special appearances occured including Donald Trump, Weird Al, and Lemmy Kilmister from the band Motorhead and many more. During the height of the show’s popularity, Barbie dolls of Drew and Mimi were released and are now considered rare collectors items. Matchbox also made Drew’s car, a Volkswagen Beetle with flames on the sides in which Drew drove. The album titled Cleveland Rocks! Music from The Drew Carey Show was released in May 1998.
